The Letter
his work developed from an unexpected letter sent by a prisoner who had encountered the artist’s earlier work. Rather than responding directly, the letter was reappropriated and transformed into an artwork through processes of partial obscuration and material intervention, including the application of glass paint to conceal selected details.
By altering and reframing the correspondence, the work explored the ethics of communication, authorship, and responsibility. The decision not to reply became embedded within the piece itself, positioning absence and unresolved exchange as central components of the work.
The project reflects on mediated relationships and the discomfort of being seen or addressed from a distance, themes that continue to inform Florish’s participatory and technologically mediated practice.
